New pop-up restaurant comes to Baldock
The new 34-seat eatery will be serving brunch, lunch and evening meals too
Baldock has greeted a new eating-out venue in the shape of a 34-seat pop-up restaurant named The Barley Club in homage to the area’s malting history.
Founded by three friends living in the town, it serves five-course tasting menus and is open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, for lunch on Sundays and for brunch from Wednesday to Saturday. Guests are promised a choice of traditional or vegan menus featuring fresh local seasonal produce and ‘flavours from around the world’. Highlights of the launch offering included a starter of carrot velouté with torched grapefruit and toasted hazelnut; venison and juniper hotpot among the mains, and salted chocolate fondant as one of the desserts.
Hannah Beadsworth, a partner with husband and wife Nick and Suellen Morris, said, ‘We had discussed the need for a different kind of eating experience in the area and when an opportunity came up we jumped at the chance to provide the local community with something different.
‘We have been overwhelmed by the positive response we’ve received from the people of Baldock and the surrounding areas. We look forward to sharing more culinary treats in the coming weeks.’
