If you don’t fancy slaving over a hot fire this year, head to one of these restaurants for a festive feast on Christmas Day
The gorgeous Brocket Hall estate in Hatfield, with over 500 acres of rolling parkland is home to Auberge du Lac, the former hunting lodge with lakeside views that will be serving a delicious Christmas Day feast this year.

If you are tired of slaving over a hot stove every Christmas Day, why not be pampered with a three course Christmas Day lunch at The Manor in Elstree? With gorgeous interiors that will be festively decorated, you can let someone else do the work as you tuck into a gourmet feast.
There will be starters such as smoked goat’s cheese with pickled walnuts and beetroot. Mains of course feature the traditional roast turkey breast, slow cooked leg and festive trimmings. Finish it all off with a dessert such as blackberry frangipane or the traditional port-soaked Christmas pudding and brandy butter.
Surrounded by rolling Hertfordshire countryside, Tewin Bury Farm Hotel is a four star hotel and wedding venue consisting of converted barns, red brick cottages and a timbered restaurant. After a glass of Champagne there will be a four course lunch, and even an appearance by the jolly red man himself. The meal will be held either in the 17th century Tythe Barn or the modern Williams’ Bar & Restaurant.
There are three options from the starter, main and dessert menus including a confit duck pastille, red wine apple, roast celeriac and parsley cake to start; roast beef sirloin with Yorkshire pudding and a rich red wine jus for main; and Christmas plum pudding with rum ice cream and the all important brandy sauce to follow. The fourth course comes in the form of tea or coffee with warm mini mince pies.

The menus at THOMPSON reflect seasonal changes in food to get the most out of their ingredients and Christmas time is no exception. There are six courses of deliciousness available so skip some of those Quality Street and arrive hungry!
First will be canapés; starters will include lobster ravioli with vegetables, shallots and lobster bisque; middle course will be roast Scottish langoustine with pig’s head croquette with pine nuts and apple; followed by the main event, options include Norfolk black turkey breast with confit legs, pigs in blankets and sage stuffing. Pre-dessert will be honey yoghurt with plum and mulled wine before a choice of desserts including an apple and honeycomb parfait and granny smith apple sorbet.

Enjoy canapés at the sparkling reception in the seasonally decorated St Alban Suite of Sopwell House, the grand country house hotel, before indulging in a decadent Christmas Day feast with friends and family.
Starters include a ballotine of foie gras, Madeira jelly and toasted brioche before a palate-cleansing raspberry sorbet to prepare guests for the main course. If you opt for traditional turkey, expect accompaniments of roast potatoes, cranberry, orange and chestnut stuffing, seasonal root vegetables, pigs in blankets and gravy. For dessert choose between a traditional Christmas pudding, banana and peanut butter cheesecake, blueberry panna cotta or a cheese board. If you have room, enjoy coffee and mini mince pies before heading back home.

Run by a pair of brothers, James and Tom Bainbridge, The Tilbury Pub & Dining Rooms in the village of Datchworth is highly praised for its traditionally British cuisine, earning spots in the Michelin Guide and gaining double AA rosettes.
There will be six courses from an amuse bouche of venison pigs in blankets with chestnut velouté and cranberry ketchup to a figgy toffee pudding with Christmas pudding ice cream and a toffee sauce. Choose between turkey and roast beef with tasty accompaniments and leave room for the starter, fish course and pre dessert! It is Christmas after all.

The Crown in Broxbourne is offering a three course festive Christmas Day lunch in its cosy, country pub environment. Adorned in Christmas decorations with a fire crackling away, this pub is a perfect place to enjoy a celebratory yuletide lunch.
Starters include a crab, prawn and salmon tart before mains such as pan-roasted venison steak with venison sausage wrapped in bacon, dauphinoise potatoes, roasted grapes and a wild mushroom and red wine jus – or turkey and festive trimmings. Finish off with a dessert such as praline crème brulee with home-baked butter biscuits.

A finalist in the 2018 Hertfordshire Life Food & Drink Awards in both the Pub of the Year and Chef of the Year categories, George IV in the pretty village of Great Amwell is putting its skills to use for Christmas Day lunch.
You can start with poached lobster tail (after breads and an amuse bouche), before a middle course and then the main event, with a choice of turkey, beef and two fish options. Finish off with a choice of puddings, but we’d go for the traditional Christmas pud with brandy cream and vanilla ice cream.
